Xeodrifter (Switch): COMPLETED!

I played and completed this before, but for 89p I couldn’t turn down buying it for the Switch and playing it again, especially since I enjoyed it so much first time around. This time, I don’t think I found as many secret areas so didn’t get as powered up as I did before, but I didn’t really have any problems. Like I said last time, it’s not really difficult. But it is fun. A great, short, little Metroidvania game!

Xeodrifter (PS4): COMPLETED!

You can clearly see Mutant Mudds’ DNA in Xeodrifter. Similar chunky pixel graphics, the same feel in terms of physics, plane shifting, 8-bit music and similar looking baddies. But it’s not a sequel, ditching fantasy mud monsters and platforming for Metroid inspired planet exploration with Metroidvania style progression through ability unlocks. As you flit to and from four different planets in search of your damaged ship’s warp core, you pick up health and weapon boosts, improving your stats and making …

Drifter / 2003 / Miner

Ah yes, a trio of awful, shameless ripoffs on a handheld with a design like the PSP, but with the power of a VMU. Excellent. I am of course, talking about my new Gameking II. It’s like a Gameking, only shaped differently and has a screen light. Not that the screen light is a lot of good, as although it illuminates the screen pretty well, there is now a “backdrop” to the screen – a picture of some mountains – …

104 Game Challenge

Just like last year, this year I took part in the RetroCollect 52 Game Challenge. The idea was to complete, uh, 52 games in a single year. Back in June, I successfully became the first person taking part to hit the 52 game barrier. But I wasn’t going to stop there. With the challenge over before the year was half done, I aimed for 104 games. The 104 Game Challenge, if you will. For the less mathematical of my readers, …

Gameking – Best Handheld Evaar

On the 10th November 2004, I ordered a Gameking handheld, and 13 games, from www.gbax.com. A couple of days later, the whole lot arrived. And what a truly fantastic bit of kit it is. As you can see from the picture, the Gameking is very similar to a standard Game Boy Advance. Very similar. In fact, aside from the words and start/select button locations, almost identical. Don’t be fooled, however, as there are some quite major differences. Firstly, there’s a …

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

I quickly zapped over to the Witch’s hut to stock up on potions before attempting to kill Blind again. I don’t know why I bothered though, as he was really easy this time. I didn’t even need one potion, let alone the three I picked up. Anyway, with Dungeon 4 finished off, I did some more exploring. I came across a strange frog person, who it turned out was a blacksmith in the Light World. I took him back to …
